Compassionate Leadership matters the most

Dr. Sangay speaking to the students

September 7th, Bhubaneswar: The School of Law, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) invited Dr. Lobsang Sangay to speak to the law students on ‘Law, Ethics and Political Leadership’. The talk was attended by more than 170 students and the faculties.

Dr. Sangay mainly focused on political leadership, especially the youth leadership in the contemporary world. Dr. Sangay remarked that the Gen-Z youth are morally very strong. They know how to challenge the status quo. Yet, they are very poor at replacing the status quo. Dr. Sangay gave examples of the situations in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh where the Gen-Z played a significant role in overthrowing the status quo. However, in hindsight, Gen-Z failed to replace the status quo. Therefore, Dr. Sangay asked the students to ponder upon the question ‘Why’ to become a leader.

The question ‘Why’ to become a leader is the most vital question before becoming a leader. The question ‘Why’ entails the truest sense of becoming a good leader. If you think power is the sole reason to become a leader, you get exhausted when the power is gone. In nutshell, to become a great leader, you must think beyond power. So, you can sustain your leadership. In order to do so, one must become a compassionate leader.

At the end of the talk, Dr. Sangay presented a copy of ‘Voice for the Voiceless’ to the Dean of the School of Law.
