JNU, September 9th: The 108 Peace Institute and the School of International Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University jointly organised a special lecture by Dr. Lobsang Sangay on ‘The Himalayan Geopolitical Conundrum: Borders, Resources and Realpolitik’. Dr. Sangay strongly urged the audience to familiarize themselves with the issue of Tibet in order to understand China.
This special lecture by Dr. Sangay was chaired by Prof. Manish Dabhade of Centre for International Politics, Organization and Disarmament (CIPOD), School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prof. Dabhade stressed the importance of understanding the Himalayan geopolitical situation to explore the broader geopolitics happening in Asia and around the world.
This special lecture by Dr. Sangay was attended by more than 50 participants ranging from the faculties, PhD students, researchers and the students of Postgraduate. During the lecture, Dr. Sangay focused on the recent developments between India and China under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. Dr. Sangay, however, warned the audience that China’s ultimate intention is to contain India from becoming a regional hegemonic power in Asia. The very popular slogan “Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai” from the Indian side is always reciprocated with “Hindi-Chini Bye Bye” from the Chinese side. Hence, Dr. Sangay urged the audience to explore more about Tibet in order to understand the realpolitik of China.
The lecture wrapped up with a long Q&A session and followed by a presentation of a copy of ‘Voice for the Voiceless’ to the Chair of the lecture.
